First of all!

Moi Reflections on Practicals 4 & 5
As obvious it is, my research topic is Impact of Drug Abuse on Youths, and this week, we had to use various types of search facilities found on the Internet.
To be honest, I did not know Meta Search Engines existed! Seriously, when my tutor said, " As you all know, for example, Meta Crawler.com", I went " Say What?!"
I mean all along, I knew Yahoo, Google, Ask Jeeves and some other popular search engines. Oh and now I understand that those I just mentioned are actually examples of normal search engines. Unlike Metacrawler and Mamma (oo..mamma mia! Sorry, I couldn't control the urge, I had to mention that! Hees!) are types of Meta Search Engines. Meaning, they provide search results from more than 1 search sites. For instance, MSN, Ask.com and About.com.
Types of Search facilities: Search Engine, Meta Search Engine and Subject Directory
Search Engine: Google.com
Meta Search Engine: Mamma.com
Subject Directory: Yahoo! Directory

Google.com
Mamma.com

Yahoo! Directory

Do you find any strength/weakness of each of them, in terms of search capability?
(I) Google’s strength: Provides the most effective and relevant information. It searches the sites thoroughly for results that are closely linked to the topic. It acknowledges the keywords typed in the search bar to provide enriching results.
(II) Mamma’s weakness: Results produced are with limited relevancy to the topic despite the keywords entered in the search unit.
(III) Yahoo! Directory: it gave me results which were completely off guard from what I expected. Most of the results had no link to my topic and were inconsistent.
Overall, which search facility best meet your searching needs? Why?
By reading my answers to the previous questions you can tell that in my point of view, Google is the best search engine. Why? Like I have mentioned in the previous paragraphs, the information provided my Google search engine are of great depth of details, relevancy and details to my search topic.
