Do you find any strength/weakness of each of them, in terms of search capability?
(I) Google’s strength: Provides the most effective and relevant information. It searches the sites thoroughly for results that are closely linked to the topic. It acknowledges the keywords typed in the search bar to provide enriching results.
(II) Mamma’s weakness: Results produced are with limited relevancy to the topic despite the keywords entered in the search unit.
(III) Yahoo! Directory: it gave me results which were completely off guard from what I expected. Most of the results had no link to my topic and were inconsistent.
By reading my answers to the previous questions you can tell that in my point of view, Google is the best search engine. Why? Like I have mentioned in the previous paragraphs, the information provided my Google search engine are of great depth of details, relevancy and details to my search topic.

Aloha people!
To begin with, so far we have completed 3 practicals in UIR, and I must say that the topics that I have learnt through them were rather, interesting.
Well here’s a summary of what I did for the practicals.
It is certainly not a new problem that has been discovered recently but it has been going on for years. However with much help and preventive measures and solutions taken up by countless number of organizations around the world, it is sad to say that those measures are to no avail. As a matter of fact, the amount of teenagers involved in drug/ alcohol abuse is on the rise. To understand the reason why this major problem is on the rise is my interest.
Moi Reflections...
Practical 1
Our task was to research on the 3 kinds of resources with issues related to the topic we chose, in my case, Impact of Drug/Alcohol Abuse on Youths.
I must say that I managed to differentiate between a normal WWW sites from the other two resources. It has given be a better understanding that everything we find on the net is not considered a WWW site.
Practical 2
The 2 links of personal and organizational websites I found:
Personal: http://drugabuse-awareness.blogspot.com/
Organizational: http://www.focusas.com/SubstanceAbuse-Drugs.html
Inthe second session, I learnt that a normal website (WWW site) can be classified into various types. For instance, I learnt about personal and organizational websites. I am sure just by looking at the words ‘personal’ and ‘organizational’ you could state the obvious. Yes, true enough, personal sites are sites that are dedicated entirely to a particular person/individual. It contains information like the person’s personal details and even issues that relates to the person. A personal site may even include blogs or live journals. Just to give you an idea, take a look at this site: www.orlandobloomweb.com
An organizational site is a site created by, well, an organization or a company of course. This contains information about the organization itself, the services it provides, facilities and others. An example of this is: www.streetdrugs.org

Practical 3
Practical 3 is a combination of Practical 1 & 2’s internet resources. However, there was something extra to analyze and complete in it. We had to choose any four out of the five resources we had collected in Pracs’ 1 & 2 and identify the purpose of the resources. We were introduced to 6 purposes of resources.
They are as follows:
· Information
· Advocacy
· Business/marketing
· News
· Personal
· Entertainment
Seriously, I found this exercise a little complicated and tough but it did make me really think and sort the purpose of the internet resources I found. I had some hard time allocating which resource belonged to what category. There was this particular site that I came across which happened to have 2 purposes to it resources. It contained advocacy and information in it.
I found that rather interesting, though I am still unsure if one site has multiple purposes to it. Gotta clear this doubt with the Ms Faridah! J =)
Well, basically, this is what I have learnt and gained so far from my UIR lessons. I am looking forward to learn new and interesting stuffs!
